Crown Reduction

A reduction is a form of tree pruning with the aim of reducing the overall height or spread of the tree.

This is carried out by removing selected branches to appropriate growth points unlike the older outdated pruning method of “topping” where the branches are just removed to a stub or inappropriate growth point creating a weak point in the tree and potentially causing rot and decay.

A reduction may be carried out if the tree has outgrown your garden or location, or maybe if the tree has been compromised due to decay or disease, reducing the spread and sail area of the tree will lessen the affect that wind loading will have on the canopy and help prevent any branch loss or damage.

Crown Lifting

Removing the branches to a specific height, retaining a uniform and balanced crown.

This is undertaken when access may be required under the tree or to let more light into the understory of your garden. Removing larger branches should be avoided and the crown lift should be achieved by removing smaller secondary limbs. This is to prevent large pruning wounds on the tree which can lead to decay.

Deadwooding

Removing the deadwood in the tree is mainly undertaken for safety reasons.

However, if the environment and location of the tree allows, the option of retaining or stabilising deadwood should be considered due to the huge ecological benefits it has. This includes providing fantastic habitat for bugs, bats and many other flora and fauna.

Felling

Straight fell or sectional dismantle of a tree.
